Organizational Design Essentials for HR
Date & Time: May 17th, 2011 - 9:00am-12:00pm
Event: BC HRMA Professional Development Program
Location: Vancouver, BC (TBA)
Presenter: Russel Horwitz, Kwela Leadership and Talent Management
Have you ever experienced a major “reorg” of an organization, only to find that not only did the intended outcome remain elusive, but in addition there were unintended consequences over time that actually took the organization backwards? And how does one tell if problems are caused by organizational design in the first place?
Fortunately there are several guiding principles to organizational design. If carefully followed these principles will tend to increase the odds that problems are correctly diagnosed and that reorganization, should it be necessary, stands a good chance of success.
What You Can Expect to Learn
- About linking strategy to structure
- When to address problems via reporting hierarchy versus process improvement
- Functional, product, process, market, geographic and hybrid structures
- Lateral processes and integrator roles
- Span of control
- Roles and responsibilities in matrixed or overlapping areas
Audience
This workshop will be of benefit to senior level HR practitioners seeking to gain a deeper knowledge of organizational design principles.
